This figure excludes police and fire precepts, which are set by your local police force and fire authority (regional bodies, not your council) and added on top of every bill in England. It combines your council's own charge with your county council's charge where your area has both (most shire districts) — official MHCLG figures for 2026/27. It also doesn't account for the 25% single-occupant discount, Council Tax Reduction/benefit, parish precepts in some areas, or other exemptions you might be entitled to. Council Tax bands (A-H) are set by law; the charge for each band is set separately by every authority and precepting body. Check your council's own website for the final, all-in figure on your actual bill.
