What we collect
Account details you give us (name, email, password — stored hashed, never in plain text). If you use ajo circles, the circle name, contribution amount, and who's marked what as paid. If you use the document vault, the files you upload and their labels. If you become an admin, an encrypted two-factor authentication secret. If you contact us, your name, email, and message.
What we don't collect
We don't collect payment card details (we don't process any payments yet), and we never see or hold any money moved between ajo circle members — those payments happen entirely outside MyJapaUK.
How we use it
To run your account, show you your circles and documents, send account-related notifications (like payment reminders you can see in-app), and respond if you contact us. We don't sell your data.
Third parties
The currency converter tool sends a currency code (e.g. "GBP") to a public exchange-rate API to fetch a live rate — no personal data is included in that request.
Cookies
We use strictly necessary cookies to keep you logged in and to protect forms from cross-site attacks. We don't currently use analytics or advertising cookies; if that changes, the cookie banner on this site will ask for your consent first.
Security
Passwords are hashed, two-factor secrets are encrypted at rest, and uploaded documents are stored outside the public web root, accessible only to the account that uploaded them.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you can ask to see, correct, export, or delete your personal data, or object to how it's used. Contact us to exercise any of these.
Children
MyJapaUK is intended for people 18 and over, given the financial and immigration-related content, and isn't directed at children.
Changes
We'll update this page as the product changes and update the date above when we do.
